The Diabolical Brian Sabean

Two of  Sabean's key acquisitions celebrate the victory
Brian Sabean certainly looks like a genius right now.

After his quartet of young starting pitchers, each of whom he drafted, held the Braves to 15 hits over 4 games; after Cody Ross, whom he acquired in a mid-season trade, hit his third RBI of the series and go ahead run of the night; after Buster Posey, the young catcher he drafted in the first round, bats .458 in his first professional playoff series, after, well.... you get the picture.

Sabean, the longest tenured GM in the majors, is on a weekend long hot streak at a Vegas blackjack table, and there are no signs of him cashing out.

He hit the jackpot in free agency by landing Aubrey Huff and rolling the dice with resigning's of Freddy Sanchez and Juan Uribe. Each of his mid season call ups, Madison Bumgarner and Buster Posey, played above and beyond all expectations; and his mid season acquisition's, Pat Burrell, Cody Ross and Javy Lopez have all played huge roles in both the regular season and postseason.

Yes, heading into the NLCS against the Phillies, Sabean is on fire. And not in the way that the big spending Phillies and Yankees are on fire, but in the way that actually takes skill, patience and a healthy amount of luck.

Even if the Giants are unable to defeat the immensely talented Phillies this year, Sabean, has the Giants in position to play ball deep into October; year after year.

On deck for the Giants are top pick Zack Wheeler, a left handed pitcher currently tearing up Double-A ball, Thomas Neal, a power hitting outfielder, and some money to spend for on a shiny new offensive bat.

Rumors have swirled for years about the possibility of the Giants bringing in Tampa Bay free agent Carl Crawford, who's game was seemingly built for ATT Park. A lefty with incredible speed, Crawford would be threatening the league's record for Triples every season he suited up in a Giants uniform.

So there you have it, in a sports town that spawns dysfunctional managment, Brian Sabean has offered the city a ray of hope. Because these Giants will not only enjoy this years NLCS against the Phillies, but many more as well.
