Week 5 NFL Pick'Em

The Birds have been killing us this year. First the Seahawks (they are a bird right?) than the Falcons and now the Eagles. I cant take it anymore. Maybe thats Alex Smith's problem. He has a bird complex. Maybe he had an accident as a child, and is unable to focus properly in the presence of winged animals. Ugh, look at me trying to rationalize all of this, buts thats what happens when you face an 0 and 5 start, especially after this past off-season's high expectations.

Now for the Week 5 picks

Eagles @ 49ers -3.5

I feel like this is a must win for the 49ers. The Eagles are a wounded animal right now with both Michael Vick and Lesean Mccoy out. One thing that worries me is that Kevin Kolb is still the same guy that everyone was raving about before the season started. Michael Vick was not the starter out of traing camp, meaning in theory, the Eagles are actually just as good or better without Vick. Anyways, you would have to think the 49ers pull this one out to have any change of salvaging the season. And if they dont, dare I say, let the Andrew Luck campaign begin?

Chargers @ Raiders +6

History has already told us what happens here. The Raiders ALWAYS play the Chargers tight, and than manage to lose it in the last few minutes. Nothing changes this time around. Raiders plus the points.
Broncos @ Ravens -7

Ravens are on a roll right now after a big win against the Steelers. Often times a big win like that leads to a letdown the next week, but in this case case I think the Ravens keep on rolling at home, where they are tough to beat. Also, the Broncos have had difficulty playing away from Mile High Stadium and are playing this game without a couple of key players. Notably Champ Bailey and Knowhshon Moreno.

Jaguars @ Bills +1

There is some sort of stat circulating around about home team underdogs winning 67% of their games. I guess I'll roll with that stat here, although I would rather not pick the Bills to cover for the 3rd time in 5 weeks.

Bears @ Panthers +1.5

It was just announced that Jay Cutler will not be available for this game, so I imagine the line will change for this game later in the week. As of now, with a 1.5 spread, I was already set to take the Panthers, and I think I still will even if they become favorites, with Cutler out.
Bucs @ Bengals -6.5

I havent been able to get a good read on either of these teams, but I think the spread is a little to high for two reasonably matched teams. I'll take the Bucs with the points.

Falcons @ Browns +3

There it is again. The always dangerous home team Underdogs. The 0-4 Browns really aren't as bad as their record would indicate, as they are playing a difficult schedule in the league's strongest conference. The Falcons have been stretching their luck recently with two late game victory's against the Saints and than the 49ers. I predict that their luck will run thin in Cleveland as the Browns pull of the upset.

Rams @ Lions -3

The Lions are favorites! The Lions are favorites! I thought this day would never come, yet Vegas is finally showing some love towards Detroit. Which is exactly why I'm going with the Rams. The Lions wont be able to handle all these expectations! Freakin love Sam Bradford,
and I think that the Rams are playing with some spunk right now.

Giants @ Texans -3

I think the Texans are a good team and will prove it against a slumbering Giants team at home. They have struggled with success so far this season, losing to the Cowboys at home and struggling against the Raiders on the road. I'm looking for this game, and the Giants weak secondary, to wake up the Texans offense.

Chiefs @ Colts -8

I was set to take the Colts no matter what the line was. It came in a little higher than expected, but still, its like clockwork. The Colts blowout everybody at home. Especially the Chiefs.

Packers @ Redskins +2.5

Redskins used up their luck last week in Philly. Packers need a statement win. Here it is.

Saints @ Cardinals +6.5

Holy cow, nearly peed my pants when I saw this line. Six and a half measly points? The Chargers just put up 41 on Arizona, Drew Brees is going to have a field day.

Titans @ Cowboys -6.5

This line is a little to high. The Cowboys are coming off a bye week, which could lead to a statement win, but the Titans always hang around football games because they are able to control the ball with their running game. This one won't get out of hand and the Titans will cover.

Vikings @ Jets -4

You can read my previous comments about the Jets, but they have pulled a truely remarkable, Over-rated, 180 degree, under-rated metamorphosis. They are acutally looking like the team that people thought they would look like when they were saying the team was overated, except now their doing it when people think that they can not......Well, tjhat all made sense to me. Randy Moss will be a non-factor in this game, save one hail mary touchdown. Farve Monday Night magic worries me a little bit, but I think the over 40 years old factor negates that. Jets win convincingly.
