Warriors About to do Something Desperate

Desperation is a stinky cologne.

Just don't tell that to Warriors owner Joe Lacob, who has yet to make a roster changing splash after 16 months of ownership.

The Warriors, who seem to daily forget that they are the Warriors, have been linked to every available player over the last 16 months; Carmelo Anthony last spring, Tyson Chandler, DeAndre Jordan and Chris Paul this faul, and currently Dwight Howard.

Unfortunatly, Lacob keeps missing the the reason each of these player are "interested" in the Warriors. #leverage

So before the Warriors do something desperate like trade their entire roster for one player (look how well thats working out for Deron Williams and the Nets) lets consider some non desperate options for the Warriors.

First off, lets put the "big three" model of building a franchise into perspective. It has worked via free agency, exactly twice. The Celtics and Heat were able to reshape their franchise using this method, yet each had 1/3rd of a big three already on the roster, the Warriors do not.

The majority of this years successful teams have stockpiled above average talent, without bad contracts over many years.

Teams like Philadelphia, Indiana, Portland, Minnesota, Denver have followed this model and should be considered a good blueprint for the Warriors.

Few, believed that a core of Andre Igoudala, Lou Williams and Thaddeus Young could compete in the Eastern Conference, yet over time, the Sixers were able to add Jrue Holliday and Evan Turner through the draft, plus Spencer Hawes and Jodie Meeks through free agency forming a highly competitive team.

Indiana was a struggling franchise built around Danny Granger, Roy Hibbert and Darren Collison. Yet smart, low-lottery picks of Tyler Hansbrough and Paul George plus free agent pick ups of George Hill, David West and Dahntay Jones have turned them around.

Similarly, few currently believe in Ellis, Curry and Lee. Yet Klay Thompson appears to be a smart low-lottery pick, plus Brandon Rush and Nate Robinson have been bargain pick ups.

Both Indiana and Philadelphia are good examples of how the Warriors can have success by moving in the direction they are currently going.

However, its going to take a little patience. And absolutely no desperation.
