Cliff Lee? So What. Giants Win Game 1

As Giants fans, we heard it all week:

"The Giants wont be able to hit Cliff Lee." "The Giants are gonna have to win games 2,3,5 and 6 because they cant beat Cliff Lee in games 1, 4 and 7." Cliff Lee is the modern day Sandy Koufax." "The Giants should just forfeit when they face Cliff Lee."

Well the Giants have something to say about that now.

As the national media trys to piece together an explanation for the Giants game 1 victory, in which they posted 7 runs on the "immortal" Cliff Lee, and another 4 on the Rangers "reliable" bullpen, Giants fans can smile, knowing all along exactly what is special about this team.

Teamwork. Defense. And a whole lot of pitching.

This Giants team dosent have one mega-star in their lineup, but every individual in the lineup contributes to the winning cause.

Cody Ross, Aubrey Huff, Buster Posey, Juan Uribe, Freddy Sanchez all have come up with timely hits this postseasoon. The Giants dont rely on one player, such as a Josh Hamilton, to win them ball games. Each player does their part when when the oppurtunity affords them and the team continues to win ball games.

Additionaly, the Giants dont shoot themselves in the foot defensively as the Phillies, and now the Rangers, have done. Despite a few "poor" defenders, (Huff, Burrell, Sandoval) the Giants have great defenders in key spots; catcher, centerfield and shortsop. Additionaly, the Giants solid bench is at Bruce Bocy's disposal for late game defensive substituions.

So while the national media continues to over-hype, average, overpaid, and overated "big market" baseball teams, all the Giants do is win.

Let the media try to figure that one out.
