Whats up with Big-East Basketball?

No suprise here at the Sports Rant, but the Big East is vastly over-rated.

With early losses by Pittsburgh, Louisville, St Johns and Notre Dame in this years NCAA tournament, the Big East has been exposed as a fraud among the power conferences of College Basketball.

As Bo Ryan, coach of the Big Ten affiliated Wisconsin Badgers, sarcastically stated, "Who knew that protecting the basketball, commiting yourself to defense and taking good shots can win you basketball games."

And therien lies the problem with Big East basketball. As wildly entertaing and exciting as its regular season is, few of its members are commited to a winning brand of basketball.

Not the frenetic, full court style played at Louiville, not the offense-centric folks over at Notre Dame and not the inconsistent bruisers over in Pittsburgh.

Untill these Big East programs commit themselves to playing basketball the "right" way (a la, ACC teams Duke and North Carolina, Big Ten teams Ohio St, Wisconsin, Michigan St and Pac-10 teams Arizona, Washington, UCLA...) by protecting the basketball, taking quality shots and commiting to team defense, will we be having this same stupid conversation every March.....

Whats wrong with the Big East!?
